Your first Standard game: the objective and resources
Win by bringing the other hero to 0 Health. Use your cards, Mana, and minions to reach that goal and stay alive.
The goal
Most games end when a hero reaches 0 Health. Your cards and minions help you win. Having more of them does not win the game by itself. Some cards can change the normal rules.
You usually start with 30 cards in your deck and 30 Health. Read any card that changes those numbers. Standard uses a changing set of cards. This wiki covers a chosen part of Standard. Check the game's Standard filter when you build a deck.
What you can use
- Mana pays for cards and Hero Powers. You normally gain one full Mana Crystal each turn, up to ten. Your Mana refills at the start of your turn.
- Your hand holds the cards you can choose to play.
- Your board holds minions and other cards already in play. They may help on later turns.
- Your deck holds cards you may draw later.
- Health and Armor help your hero stay alive. They can buy you time.
Before you play
Look at both heroes and both sides of the board. Check your hand, Mana, and the cards left in each deck. Ask: “What happens if I leave this board alone?”
Then choose what you need most. You may need to stay alive, deal damage, draw cards, or set up a combo.
Try to explain your play in one short sentence. For example: “This trade keeps my best minion safe.” Or: “This draw may find the spell I need.”
