The learning path
Read in order, from your first turn to confident decisions under uncertainty.
Part I · Foundations
9 lessonsYour first Standard game: the objective and resources
Win by bringing the other hero to 0 Health. Use your cards, Mana, and minions to reach that goal and stay alive.
Read cards, keywords, and Hero Powers
Read what each card does before you play it. Card types and keywords tell you which moves are allowed.
Manage board space, hand space, and your deck
Leave room for the cards and minions you want. A full hand or board can waste part of a play.
Use a reliable turn checklist
Plan your whole turn before your first move. Check for a win, deal with danger, and put your actions in the right order.
Spend Mana with a plan: curve and development
Use Mana to build a useful board and keep your plan moving. A good Mana curve helps you make plays on early and late turns.
Choose good trades and know when to attack face
Attack minions when it helps your plan. Attack the enemy hero when damage brings you closer to a safe win.
Count lethal and evaluate a damage race
Count the damage you can really deal. Check that you can survive long enough to finish the game.
Understand aggro, tempo, midrange, control, and combo
Deck types describe how a deck tries to win. Learn the main plans so you can choose the right cards and plays.
Balance tempo and value
Tempo helps you act now. Value gives you useful results over time. Choose the one your position needs.
Part II · Decisions & strategy
10 lessonsEvaluate card advantage and resource quality
More cards can give you more choices. What those cards can do matters as much as how many you have.
Build a matchup-aware mulligan
Keep starting cards that help your first few turns. A cheap card is useful only when it has a job to do.
Use The Coin to create a stronger sequence
The Coin gives you one extra Mana for a turn. Use it when that Mana helps your whole plan.
Who’s the Beatdown?
Decide who needs to attack and who can wait. Your job can change as the game changes.
Spend Health without losing your safety margin
You can sometimes take damage to gain a better play. Spend Health only when you know what you gain.
Position minions for the effects that matter
Where you put a minion can change a turn. Check effects that use nearby minions or one side of the board.
Sequence actions to preserve information and options
Choose your action order before you start. Good order can save cards and let new information help your turn.
Understand triggered effects, deaths, and replacement bodies
Track effects one step at a time. A clear may leave new minions behind after the first ones die.
Test Secrets at an acceptable cost
Use clues to work out which Secret the enemy may have. Test it only when the test is worth the cost.
Read the opponent’s hand without pretending to know it
Use shown cards and past plays as clues. Treat your read of the enemy's hand as a guess that can change.
Part III · Advanced play
11 lessonsChoose Discover options for the game you are in
Choose the Discover card that solves your main problem. Check its cost and how the effect will use it.
Play to your outs when the normal plan fails
An out is a draw or event that could help you win from a bad spot. Choose a play that leaves your outs usable.
Calculate draw odds without overcomplicating the game
Count helpful cards and cards left in your deck to estimate a draw. Use those odds to compare your plans.
Plan fatigue and long-game resource races
Trying to draw from an empty deck causes Fatigue damage. Count each failed draw before you choose to draw more.
Connect this turn to the next three
Make a short plan for the next few turns. Leave room to change it when the enemy acts or you draw a new card.
Build a coherent deck and test one change at a time
Build a deck around one clear way to win. Give each card a useful job and test changes for a clear reason.
Read the metagame and use statistics carefully
Deck stats can help you make choices. Check which players, decks, and patch the numbers describe.
Grow a collection around decks you will use
Build toward a deck you want to play. Check current rewards and card offers before you spend dust or money.
Review games and use tracking tools thoughtfully
Use replays and short notes to improve one choice at a time. Track useful habits as well as wins.
Manage tilt and practice with a purpose
Good choices can still lose. Build habits that help you learn through both wins and losses.
Optional next step: Standard tournament strategy
Tournaments add rules for deck choices, bans, and matches. Read the event rules and give your whole lineup a plan.
