Past keywords
Learn older keywords such as Dredge, Forge, and Tourist. This list explains their rules, not which cards are legal now.
These rules come from older sets. Some return in later sets, Core, or events. A card being listed here does not make it legal in Standard.
Enrage is a retired keyword. Joust is a named mechanic. The other rules still work when cards use them. Rules in the earlier chapters are not repeated here.
Corrupt
Play a card that costs more to upgrade this card in your hand. It must already be in your hand. Then you can play its stronger version.
Dredge
Look at the bottom three cards of your deck. Choose one to put on top. This does not draw it.
Echo
Playing the card makes a copy you can play again that turn. Unused Echo copies vanish at turn end. They cannot cost less than 1 Mana.
Enrage — retired keyword
The minion got its bonus while damaged. Blizzard retired the keyword in 2018. Cards kept the effect in plain text, such as “while damaged.”
Excavate
Gives you a treasure in hand. Each use moves to a stronger treasure level. Classes with a Legendary treasure get it at level four. Then their cycle starts again.
Finale
Gives a bonus if playing the card uses all your Mana left. Plan your order so this card spends the last Mana.
Forge
Drag the card over your deck and pay 2 Mana to upgrade it. It stays in your hand. Forging does not play it or draw a replacement.
Frenzy
Works once, the first time this minion takes damage and lives. Damage that kills it does not set off Frenzy.
Gigantify
Playing the minion adds an 8-cost, 8/8 Gigantic copy to your hand. That copy does not keep making more Gigantify copies.
Honorable Kill
Gives a bonus for dealing exactly enough damage to kill an enemy character on your turn. Extra damage does not count.
Infuse
Counts friendly minions that die while this card is in your hand. When enough die, it turns into its stronger Infused form. Earlier deaths do not count.
Inspire
After you use your Hero Power, friendly Inspire minions do their effects. They must be on the board when you use the power.
Invoke
Uses your Galakrond's Hero Power effect. It also upgrades the Galakrond card after two uses and again after four. After you become Galakrond, Invoke still gives the power effect. It does not improve a Battlecry that already happened.
Joust — named mechanic
Show a random minion from each player's deck. You get the bonus if yours costs more. A tie does not win. Both cards stay in their decks. Joust is a named mechanic, not a printed keyword.
Magnetic
Play this minion just to the left of a friendly Mech to add its stats and effects to that Mech. Play it elsewhere to keep it separate. If the Mech can already attack, the added stats can help right away.
Manathirst
Gives its bonus when you have at least the stated number of Mana Crystals. Spent crystals still count. You do not pay that number as an extra cost.
Miniaturize
Playing the minion adds a 1-cost, 1/1 Mini copy to your hand. It keeps the card's useful effects. It does not keep making more Miniaturize copies.
Overkill
Gives a bonus for dealing more damage than needed to kill the target on your turn. Exact lethal damage is not enough.
Quickdraw
Gives a bonus if played on the turn it enters your hand. Drawing, making, or returning a card can set it up. Waiting until a later turn loses the bonus.
Recruit
Summons a random minion from your deck, with any limits on the card. This does not set off the minion's Battlecry.
Spellburst
Works once after you cast a spell while this minion or weapon is in play. Each copy gets one use, not one each turn.
Starship / Starship Piece
When friendly Starship Pieces die, their base stats and effects join your ship under construction. The unfinished ship takes a board slot. Pay 5 Mana to launch it as a minion. Later Pieces can start a new ship. Only one ship can be under construction at once.
Tourist
Lets your deck use Perils in Paradise cards from the stated class. It does not allow that class's Tourist cards or its whole card pool.
Twinspell
Casting this adds a copy without Twinspell to your hand. You can save it for later. That copy does not make another Twinspell copy.
