Voltron / Tall

Build one large threat without risking every card on it. Learn how tall and Voltron decks choose buffs, protect attacks, and prepare a follow-up.

A tall or Voltron plan stacks buffs and added parts on one main minion or a small number of threats. A ready minion can turn a buff into a large attack right away.

The risk is simple: one enemy card may remove several cards' worth of work.

Choose how much to spend

Before adding a buff, ask what the new stats change. Does it win now? Does it survive a likely damage clear? Can it kill a threat and live?

A bigger number that changes none of these may not be worth a card. Splitting your buffs between two minions may be safer against one-target removal.

Plan shields and attacks in order. A minion that is ready can use a buff now. A new one may give the enemy a full turn to answer.

Silence can remove buffs. Transform can replace the minion. Destroy effects can ignore its Health. Protection from damage does not stop all these answers.

Strengths and weak spots

Tall minions can win normal fights and resist small damage spells. They are weak to cheap removal, bounce, Silence, and transform. Sometimes the enemy can ignore them and win a faster race.

Save a follow-up instead of spending every card on needless size. When facing this plan, compare removing the main minion with removing the card that supports it.

To test the setup and payoff, check how your deck recovers when its main minion is removed.
